Wildfires

Wildfires

Two years ago, I went to the Christian festival Wildfires in a work capacity – I was on the stand of Open Doors, the charity I work for. If someone had said to me that, the next time I would be there, it’d be as one of the event’s official photographers, I’d have laughed and said “If only!” But that’s exactly what happened. I received an email with volunteer roles, one of which was in the media team, and I thought I’d go for it. Thankfully, I was accepted and it was a wonderful experience. Whilst I have done some event photography before, it’s never been on the scale this involved, so I was very much out of the proverbial comfort zone, both technically and creatively. But I’m thrilled with the broad range of snaps I took, and I’ve received some lovely feedback. Here are a selection of the photos, taken mostly with the Fujifilm x-T5 with the occasional few with the Fujifilm x100f.

New York City

New York City

If there is one place I have long loved to visit for a spot of street and urban photography, it’s New York City. The tantalising mix of skyscrapers, iconic transportation systems, fascinating characters and breathtaking pace of life has made it the go-to place for street photographers for decades; in fact, it could be argued that the genre was born there. And so when I discovered I had been successful in the ballot for the city’s half marathon in March 2024, it wasn’t just the run (and food!) that I was excited about. My wife and I stayed for a week, and whilst I can only dream of having the eyes and expertise of the likes of Joel Meyerowitz, Garry Winogrand and Melissa O’Shaughnessy, I enjoyed the challenge of shooting in their footsteps. Here’s a selection of what I took, all with the Fujifilm x100f…

Ljubljana

Ljubljana

When my wife and I booked our trip to Ljubljana, it was principally to take part in the half marathon. But we arranged to spend a few days there beforehand, to sample life in Slovenia’s capital and explore Lake Bled (an hour-and-a-half bus journey) as well as Zagreb. We fell in love with Ljubljana. It had an understated beauty to it, that made wanderings its streets a treat. Of course, I took my Fujifilm x100f with me, and here are a sample of the best…

I'm at The London Photo Show!

I'm at The London Photo Show!

For the first time ever, my photos are being featured in an exhibition! I am part of the Urban Photography Club, and a few of us signed up for space to share our photos at The London Photo Show, running between 8 and 12 November. It’s a real thrill to showcase some of my work alongside other incredible photographers. It’s certainly given me the bug do it more! The photos featured are below, and prints of all of them are available to buy on my Etsy shop. If you like any of the photos, but would like it in a different size or material, please contact me directly via the shop or by email (timbechervaise@hotmail.com) for a bespoke order. And if there are any other of my photos, either on my website or Instagram feed that you like, do get in touch! Thanks for your support.

Zagreb

Zagreb

Whilst preparing our short break in Ljubljana, Slovenia, we noticed that we could do a quick hop to Zagreb in Croatia. It’s less than two hours on a coach. We didn’t really know what to expect of the city, but we were excited to pay a day visit. To be honest, we were a little underwhelmed by it – the city doesn’t quite have the charm and character of Ljubljana – but we still had a good time. We particularly enjoyed our visits to Heritage (authentic Croatian cuisine) and Monocycle (superb coffee). We were also taken by the number of nuns and monks walking around! The city’s tram system was also fun to explore, particularly the older trams. All this meant that there was some good material for the street and urban photographer in me! Here are the best, all taken with the Fujifilm x100f…
